On February 2nd, 2025, we visited the castle on a cold day. Despite the chilly temperatures inside, it did not detract from our overall experience.
We were delighted to discover this hidden gem and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the beautiful buildings. The handheld tour guide provided fascinating historical information at our leisure. The views from the top of the South Tower were simply stunning.
After our visit, we treated ourselves to a hot drink at the Tea Rooms near the car park. The deluxe hot chocolate was absolutely delicious.
Overall, we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this experience to others.

I have a deep admiration for Stokesay. The challenge is resisting the urge to visit too often. It ranks among my top three favorite historic buildings in the UK.

The castle is exceptionally well-maintained and provides the chance for relaxed exploration. Despite its compact size, the castle is incredibly captivating, particularly for someone like me who admires the authentic period oak paneling and intricately carved timbers. I would enjoy delving further into its history without the interruption of my children darting from one room to another.

I highly recommend taking advantage of the free audio guide included with your ticket at Stokesay. It brings the historical site to life with its engaging and informative commentary. It is a well-crafted and entertaining addition to your visit.

One of the most breathtaking and picturesque houses in England is a historic medieval fortified house built in 1280 by the Lord of Ludlow who was involved in the wool industry.

Despite its size, we ended up spending more time at the small site than we had initially anticipated. The audio guide was essential for enhancing our experience, and we were pleasantly surprised by the entertaining performances by Quill and Inkling, who added a festive touch to our visit during Halloween.

If you have a dog, reconsider visiting this castle. The reception team mentioned that dogs were only allowed in certain areas, but the restrictions were not clearly outlined. It was disappointing to spend £16 for myself and my daughter, especially since we were unable to fully enjoy the audio tour due to the dog. It seems unreasonable that a well-behaved dog could not accompany us throughout the castle, especially considering our positive experiences at other historical sites like Skipton Castle. One staff member even suggested leaving the dog tied up outside, which is not a viable option for responsible dog owners. The castle is beautiful, but clearer guidelines regarding pets would have been appreciated.

Experience a magnificent castle with stunning views and enjoy immersive storytelling on a complimentary device at your own pace. Delight in captivating performances by talented actors on the castle grounds, sharing fables and historical tales. Although parking is not complimentary, there is plenty of space available. The tea room/cafe offers a wide selection of delicious food, and the castle boasts reasonable admission fees for access to all areas. I highly recommend visiting this enchanting destination.

I absolutely adored Stokesay Castle. It is a must-visit if you are in the area and have a passion for medieval history like I do. The gift shop on site is fantastic, and the charming tea room is perfect for enjoying a cup of tea and slice of cake after exploring the castle.

The tickets I received as a gift from my long-time English Heritage member parents were unfortunately not accepted by the staff at the site I visited. Despite using these tickets at various locations across the country without any issues before, I was pressured into buying new tickets, which felt like a waste of money. While the site itself was pleasant, I did not feel it was worth the £24 fee. I would advise others to thoroughly research a site before visiting to avoid similar experiences.
